When to surf in Morocco: a season-by-season guide

Good news: in Taghazout you can surf all year round. The climate stays mild (20 to 30°C during the day) and it only rains two or three weeks a year. But depending on your level, some seasons suit you better than others.

October to April: swell season

This is high season for intermediate and advanced surfers. Winter swells from the North Atlantic light up the bay's legendary pointbreaks: Anchor Point, Killer Point, Boilers and Hash Point. Waves are longer and more powerful, and the wind is often offshore in the morning.

Beginners aren't forgotten: when it's big on the points, we head to sheltered beachbreaks like Devil's Rock in Tamraght, where the whitewater stays friendly.

May to September: beginner summer

The ocean calms down and the waves get smaller and more regular: the perfect time to learn and link your first green waves. It's hot, the days are long and the villages are buzzing.

Tip: in summer the wind tends to pick up in the afternoon. That's why we surf in the morning and keep afternoons for free surf on sheltered spots, the beach or an activity.

Which wetsuit?

No need to bring your own — wetsuits are provided. For reference, the water ranges from about 17°C in winter to 22°C at the end of summer: a 4/3 in winter, a 3/2 the rest of the year.

So when should you come?

• Beginner: any time of year, ideally spring and summer.
• Improver: autumn (September–November) is a great mix of waves and warm water.
• Advanced: October to April, for the pointbreaks.

Either way, our coaches pick the right spot every morning for the day's swell and the group's level. All you have to do is choose your dates.
